I wrote this story to show humans that we are killing animals and their habitat for no reason!
Water was rippling down the cool Australian stream. There was a hole, in this rainforest, in that hole was a platypus called Bob. He was doing his chores when he heard a strange rumbling sound. The sound came closer and closer by the minute. Sarah slithered her head into his hole that was now turning into an earthquake.
“Humans!” cried Sarah as she hissed like the snake she was, “with big machines!” Then they heard a splash!
A head popped up from underneath the crystal clear water.
“Thank god that it is you!” exclaimed Bob who had almost fainted.
“’Ribbit’, Hi Sarah, Bob,” said the hopping frog, whose name was Freddie, “can I come in?”
Bob had walked back further into his cozy hole, than Freddie expected. Bob’s reply sounded very distant, Freddie could not make out what he said. The snake and frog entered anyway. They found themselves in a very poorly-lit room, all of the chairs were covered in moss. Bob was near a stove, the smell that came from the pot was making Freddie’s mouth water.
“Come on, sit wherever you want,” said Bob without turning around. Then, they heard a crack, it was right above them!
“They are right above us! Get out! Get OUT!” shouted Bob. They frantically climbed, slithered and hopped out of the hole. A majestic Toucan stood in front of them.
“Hurry up, there’s not much time!” screeched Bill, “Climb on my back! Hold on!” then, all four of them were off the ground.
They couldn’t believe what was happening! Those humans had decided to build a camp, on top of Bob’s wonderful home.
“My home!” wailed Bob as Bill pearched on a tree. All four of them watched in silence as Bob’s home was destroyed.
“I heard that they will be here for weeks!” cried the great bird.
“That’s not good,” mumbled Bob. The others shook their heads.
“I believe that we should arrange an animal meeting at the old stump tomorrow. Search for all of the animals who want to help and ask them to rendezvous at the stump. We will meet sun touches the first tree.” The toucan surprised the others as he flew silently off.
It seemed like years passed before the meeting came the next day. Freddie had managed to bring some of his family and concerned cockatoos. Bob brought his family and friends while every snake accompanied Sarah. She had convinced some marching ants to attend. Lots of different types of birds, Kookaburras laughing at each other, screeching Toucans flew along with Bill. Bob also got the most important person in the rainforest come, the mayor.
“Silence!” roared the William the wombat mayor. “We have come from far and wide to discuss a very serious matter that will concern us and our children if we don’t act now.”
“What is this matter?!” asked one of the Kookaburras.
“The humans have finally arrived. We weren’t ready, that has caused for several homes to be lost. Bob’s home was the last one to be destroyed, and that is where the humans are! If we work together we can defeat these evil humans!” The thoughtful wombat looked around. He was pleased that everybody attended. When Bob was summoned up to talk his speech was very short, that everyone listened to it intensely.
“My home was destroyed! They have started to litter and ‘gulp’ cut down some of our trees.” Bob was saying this slowly so that everyone could hear. “These people are not the kind and caring ones, they are destructive and self centered. We should stand on our own two feet and strive forward to win our victory!” There was a loud applause, laughs and even shouts by his fellow animals. He felt very sad and considered that they should have some sort of plan. “I have got a plan so gather round.” The animals gathered around Bob and he discussed about how they were going to save the forest.
They discussed this problem well into the night, when finally Bob said, “we will follow plan A tomorrow night. That will give them a fright!” All of the animals were tired so they walked, hopped, scuttled and flew home. No one remained!
The next night, every creature went around to the campsite and picked up all of the rubbish to throw into the humans tents. The ants scuttled into the tents and placed a piece of rubbish onto the campers, then another, then another. Soon there was no more human litter left outside.
“That will teach them,” said Bob. He was very pleased about how everything was going. He reminded them that they must do part B tomorrow. Everyone was excited about what was going to happen.
The humans did exactly what they wanted them to do. They woke up the next morning and found the litter in their tents. They quietly cleaned their tents using a dustpan and broom, and put the rubbish in their truck. The animals were happy because their plan had worked!
Now it was time for part B. The following night, the animals worked again. At least twenty thousand ants silently marched in a long line into each human’s tent. That was enough biting to get every human up and screaming.
The humans looked like flying beetles. When they came close to the bushes animals would scratch or bite them. Those humans were never seen again because they had so many scratches and ant bites that they ran all over the country and landed somewhere where they couldn’t come back.
The animals were so very happy and their children got their own playground. They played in the truck that the humans left! Everybody was happy including Bob. He got a new home, better than his old one! Bob started up a new fantastic kitchen. All believed it was the hit of the year. Everybody went back to their usual quiet ways, happily doing their own things, including the mayor!
