Background Info. on Other Characters
Society – simple and passive, years behind the wall had blinded these people to the
world outside, but the wall had taken more than their freedom to experience
the outer world. Alexa thought it had stolen their ability to figure out the
truth. The people of Bridewell trusted everybody. They had a very safe
society. The first time suspicion was seen, (except for Pervis, about Alexa, of
course) was in the final chapters of the book. Their Income came from
repairing books.
Wall construction – 10 years to build – 42 feet high (12 metres)
Bridewell - 2 miles circumference (3.2 km long) 3 feet wide (1 metre)
Wall is 20 feet high (6 metres)
Summer Population =15 guards, 60 men, women and children.
Thomas Warvold
Brains of Bridewell. The birth of Warvold set in motion events that his death must now bring to a close. Warvold chose Alexa to accomplish this task. He was poisoned by Sebastian, an old man, mysterious, weary and crumpled. A great adventurer in his younger days and the stone looked into the future a talked of evil forces. Loved his wife and child and wanted to protect them from evil! He was late to fatherhood. He thought that the dark forces were from the Dark Hills, when it was the wall itself. Loves everybody, helps every one when he has the chance. Convicts should have been rehabilitated after 10 years of hard labour, into the Bridewell Society; instead, Warvold abandoned them back to Ainsworth and from there, to the Dark Hills.
Renny Warvold
Died 2 years after walls were completed, knew that Ganesh was Sebastian ‘criminal from Ainsworth who helped build the walls’, tall, slender, good teeth, mysterious, beautiful, fantastic artist (great at hiding details in Jocasta’s). Put glowing stones into pool, in the dark hills, that helped humans communicate to animals.
Nicholas Warvold
25 years old, born just prior to wall being built, mum died when 12.


James Daley
Alexa’s dad, mayor of Lathbury, unworried, kind, determined, generous, loves wife and daughter and very protective about Alexa, wife, town and wall. He is a pacifist.
On – Sebastian, he would be a low profile person!
Alexa Daley
12 years old, knowledgeable, intelligent, bright, sneaky, kind, always on her toes, causes trouble wherever she goes, spirited, courageous, willing, very active, energetic, brave, sweet and above all, adventurous and determined. Alexa has skinny arms, knobbly knees, sandy-coloured hair (which she keeps in a braid nearly all of the time), sparkling eyes and a sweet face. Stole a spyglass off her mother, hates Pervis for destroying spyglass. Good at chess, loves games and her dad. Very talkative, loves to help others and does not order others around. Sometimes felt alone, afraid, scared and upset, a thief, troublemaker and liar.
Pervis Krotcher
He worked with Warvold prior to the walls being built, important because, therefore, Pervis cannot be Sebastian.
I haven’t had a holiday in 20 years! He had a rough, unhappy childhood. (Aged over 40) Captain of the guards, jealous of Alexa, follows her around, mean, short and wiry, dark eyes, eyes reminded Alexa of a rat, stared a lot, has a moustache, energetic, unimportant (when young), beaten by drunk father and other kids. Hates everybody, loves no one, had no money.
Reason to change in Pervis’s attitude was Alexa’s father pointing out that Alexa will
lead Bridewell, with Nicholas, and he will serve under her.
Taken under the wing of Warvold, who taught him how to become Captain of the Guards, spent whole life watching over the city of Bridewell, very intelligent, smart, protects Alexa at end, becomes nice to her (her champion) and loves her for who she is.
Grayson
A Kind librarian who assisted Warvold in reading and leading the quiet lifestyle.


Sebastian/Ganesh
Ganesh – Heart of Bridewell. Towers over Pervis, piercing blue eyes, love Alexa? Held my hand, warm, big and safe, spoke with a wonderful deep voice, dry wit, amusing, sarcastic, Grandfatherly love, sentimental mayor of Turlock (in one year, Turlock went from 200 people to 1,000 people), restless and enjoys freedom (never married). He poisoned Warvold.
On - death of Warvold, Ganesh held Alexa tight, she had a downcast spirit so he sat quietly for a few minutes, hardly any words spoken.
On – Cats, I love these cats, so calm, gentle and patting. They were traitors to Bridewell.
On – Alexa, I know you love sneaking around the place, as long as no one gets hurt.
On – Pervis, he is very good at protecting Bridewell, his guards are always in top form, his reports are excellent, he works tirelessly and he is paranoid about the outside.
Sebastian – maybe a convict, somebody on the inside that knows more than what they are telling, someone who is looking for more power, disgruntled, crafty, giving orders, making men ready, brilliant serpent that he is vile criminal.

Life in the Forests Outside the Walls
Yipes – Small man, 1st test, fed Alexa and she spent overnight. Grayson and Warvold
had befriended him. Grayson named him from pictures they found in a book
Darius – wolf, 2nd test for Alexa
Malcolm – rabbit, 3rd test Alexa
Odessa – wolf, wife of Darius, lives with Sherwin
Sherwin – son of Darius, 2 month old when wall built and separated from father
Hawks – Patrol and bring information
Ander – grizzly bear, forest king, only hope is to bring down the wall
Murphy – squirrel, messenger between Alexa and Yipes, then onto Ander
Map – showed brown and black lines, brown – above ground, black – below ground (underneath)
Elyon – in the stones lies the answer why Elyon created us, why he created this place and where he has gone. Elyon is on the move, his return is imminent.
Stones – allows holder to communicate with animals, Yipes, Alexa, Warvold, 3 with Convicts.
Convicts
They were freed from Ainsworth after working hard for 10 years on the wall. They numbered 200 or so people. They were tired of living in tunnels and wanted to take over Bridewell and organise a trade route to Turlock and Lathbury. Said they were impatient to wait for Sebastian to give the order to invade. They wanted to do it now.
