Mr Collins is an important
character in the novel, Pride and Prejudice;
the reader is positioned to view him negatively through the main theme of
the novel. He considers himself above everybody else because he believes he
knows more. He is arrogant towards Mr Bennet, however Mr Collins does not
believe he acts this way. His pride blinds him between stepping over the
boundary and staying on the correct side. His personality impacts upon the
reader negatively and his pride, “… my hand unworthy of your acceptance … what I
can offer would be any other than highly desirable. My situation in live [and]
my connections…” Mr Collins has a very high opinion and holds himself in the
highest regard. His pride is what blinds him from seeing Elizabeth does not
wish to marry him. Through the use of binary opposition between Elizabeth and
Mr Collins, it is easy to recognize which character the reader sympathies and
which the reader demoniacs. Throughout the entire novel, the reader is position
to view Mr Collins negatively through the theme Pride.
