Young Women of the 21st Century are able to
relate to Elizabeth because of her attitudes towards love and marriage. She
states, ‘there are few people whom I really love…” proves she believes strongly
about love. She is strong willed and does not marry MR Collins because she
knows she doesn't love him. Her mother says, “She is a head strong foolish girl.”
Where her mother cannot see Elizabeth’s views on love, the reader can relate
because arranged are rare in this century. Free will has also changed the way
women of the 21st century view marriage and love. Women are opinionated
and independent which Elizabeth represents in the novel. Through the character
Eliza, women of the 21st century are able to relate to her attitudes
to love and marriage.
